Conference House

The 17th-century manor house where Benjamin Franklin and John Adams met with a British admiral in 1776 to try, and fail, to negotiate peace before the Revolutionary War really got going. It sits at the very southern tip of Staten Island, about as far from the rest of the city as you can get and still be in it.
